What is Azure AD Single Sign On?

What does Single Sign On mean?
Single Sign On offers its users the option of using just one password and one user name for all apps, programs, etc. without any loss of security. This is possible by logging in once to the selected Single Sign On provider. By entering the password and user name, automatically connected apps and programs are also unlocked and users can conveniently access everything without having to constantly remember which password they had.
Advantages
Signle Sign On offers many advantages, including for example
- A faster login to programs.
- Greater productivity thanks to time savings when logging in.
- More security when using multiple apps and programs. As only one password needs to be remembered, this can be more complicated and therefore more secure.
- Greater IT efficiency.
Disadvantages:
Even if there are so many advantages, you still have to be aware of the disadvantages. These consist of:
- Limited apps and programs, as single sign-on only works with compatible software, which in turn depends on the SSO provider selected.
- In the event of theft, however, the damage is all the greater. Conversely, however, stealing this data is more difficult and less likely than without single sign-on.
- If a part of the single sign-on system no longer works, no included program can be accessed.
What is Azure AD?
With the Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) program, Microsoft offers companies the opportunity to use single sign-on services. The program offers users not only the advantages already mentioned, but even more:
- All programs can be accessed from any location.
- Data is secured and well protected by functions such as “Conditional user” and “Two-factor authentication”.
- Since there is only one identity level, transparency and control over the environment is possible
- It is also possible to grant access to certain data to selected persons for a selected period of time through governance.
Conclusion:
All in all, it can be said that the Single Sign On system definitely has many advantages and these outweigh the disadvantages. It is more efficient, more secure and increases productivity.
