ALCOA principle
The ALCOA principle is used to achieve data integrity. The name of the ALCOA principle is based on the acronym ALCOA and refers to the characteristics that data should have in order to achieve data integrity. The acronym is made up of: Attributable, Legible, Contemporaneous, Original and Accurate.
- Attributable = Assignable
It must be possible to assign who carried out an action and when. - Legible = Readable
Refers to whether a file or document is readable. - Contemporaneous = close to the time
The time of work must be recorded and documented. For example by means of a timestamp. - Original = Original
The information must be available in the original recording. - Accurate = Correct
The data should be error-free.
To ensure the integrity of the data, features of the ALCOA principle must be fulfilled. The ALCOA principle thus provides a framework that serves to define the basis for all data governance activities.
