What are measurement standards?

Measuring standards are physical precision reference sources (= reference quantities) that are used for verification & calibration, for adjustment & for determining the value of an unknown quantity. Manufacturers can use them to specify the technical characteristics of their products and their tolerances. There are a large number of different standards in the electrical industry for this purpose.
